Family Home Evening: Iron rod to tree of life

Grandma and PaPa invited us over for a special-edition FHE with their neighbors. Alex was asked to give the lesson, and we decided to talk about a dream that Lehi, a prophet from the Book of Mormon, had. In the dream he saw an iron rod that led to a tree that was white, light and had delicious fruit. In the dream, people would try to get to the tree, but the only way to get there was by holding to the iron rod and staying on the path. Many people let go of the rod and got lost in the darkness, or the filthy rivers, or were made fun of by wealthy people in a great and spacious building ... but those who held to the rod made it to the tree, which is called the Tree of Life. It represents eternal life. The iron rod is the Word of God. So, Alex and his dad set up an iron rod ... well, a rope that went from Papa's deck, around the side of the house to the tree they put white Christmas lights on.
The little ones loved it ... and the icecream that followed.
