Welcome, Baby Boy Poe!

He's here! We went into the hospital on Wednesday night, expecting a fast delivery ... but this baby had something different in mind. The nurses referred to it as the "Third Child Syndrome" - apparently it's common for third babes to throw their parents for a loop right from the start. Fourteen hours after we arrived, he came out biting - literally; he bit the doc's finger on the way out. :)

And though the laboring part was long, the pushing part was just the right amount of time. I'd even say it was my favorite (gotta love epidurals ... and I only had a half-dose due to my low blood pressure). The experience is difficult to describe - it's so sacred to bring a new life into the world. Each birth has been so different. I guess I'd describe this birth as hard work, peaceful and a privilege.

I love this pic because it was taken seconds after they put our little guy on my chest. The feelings were so fresh. Our awesome nurse, Peggy, was busy at work as the photo flashed.

Good thing he came early (his actual due date was the Fourth of July).

Daddy did EXCELLENT - he was by my side fanning me when I got hot, cleaning me up when I puked, and comforting me when I was nervous about the epidural. Heck, he even LOOKED during the birth. :) Good job, Dad!
