Homeschool: brain stretches

The girls have a few workbooks we lean on when I'm fresh out of ideas - and one of them had this puzzle you cut out and try to put back together to be a square. I think it's a second grade workbook ... but it left me and Big Sis scratching our heads for way too long. She was the brilliant one who got the paper she had cut it out from in order to put it back together ...   My mom always talks about how great puzzles are for the brain. I think we need to do a few more brain stretches!
Another fun go-to game in our house is Boggle Jr. It has dice with letters and several cards with words to spell. I love how my two girls instinctively found a way that both could play at the same time, and at their own levels. They did that on their own - I was in awe.  Lil Sis would sound out each sound and try to identify the letter, then help find the right dice. Big Sis is learning a few spelling rules (I really like the "All About Spelling" book we've been using), and so she'd put the sounds and rules together to help form the right word. Then they'd check their work and sort the words into two piles: words to work on next time and words spelled correctly. They were a great team.
