We joined the Pacific Whale Foundation for a dolphin watch cruise. The ship we sailed on could have fit 168 people - but there were only 27 of us on board. We just kept getting lucky! The marine biologist on board was super sweet with the girls; when she asked what they wanted to see in the ocean, they specifically requested spinner dolphins. She said she'd do her best ... and boy did she deliver! We saw a pod of nearly 100 spinner dolphins! They're usually nocturnal, and so not too active during the day, but this group was spinning, porpoising and putting on a show! Even our little Buddy Boy spotted them with delight. The captain said he'd been doing this kind of dolphin watch for about 17 years, and he'd only seen a pod that large and active a handful of times - and that we witnessed the sort of event that National Geographic goes to Maui for! AWESOME! Now yes, Mommy did get sea sick, so it wasn't complete perfection ... but it was pretty dorsal fin close!
