Thanksgiving prep

Oh the fun we've had learning about Thanksgiving!
Today we made Native American headdresses (sounds fancy, huh?). Our friend, one of my YW, Rachel, came over to make one too (though she wouldn't wear it for the picture).

We've also made several versions of turkeys. The paper plate ones the girls made with GMa are hanging on the fridge downstairs -and turned out super cute - I should go take a pic of them and add it to this post. 'Til then, here are some silly turkeys.
The girls had so much fun with these simple wordstrips! We'd flip them all upside down, then they'd take turns picking one out to talk about.

Our classic Thankful Tree. We have so much to be thankful for!

One of the books we checked out from the library was called, "I know an old lady who swallowed a pie." So, we made our old lady and stuck her on a plastic baggie.
Then Big Sis wrote the words for all the items she swallowed - and would carefully slip them in her tummy in sequence to the book.
This one cracks me up. We read a book about an Indian boy getting his Indian name. After that, we all needed our own Indian names. Big Sis picked "Dancing Rabbit"; Little Sis picked "Loud Cow" (She's really loud and cow just happens to be her favorite animal. It truly wasn't meant to be mean!); Dad was deemed "Happy Bear"; and the girls named Mom "Mother Chicken". Then we made puppets to represent each of us. Here they are having dinner together.

One day we made Native American drums out of cottage cheese and yogurt containers.
The girls thought it was a big hit (no pun intended!).
These little projects unite the girls, and are often their favorite things we do each day.
They're so cute together - and though it gets a little messy sometimes, and frustrations pop up, I think it's memories like these that will stick. Hey, I know I'm having a blast!
