How I want to remember this summer:

We stood on the viewing dock very still and very quiet. We could hear dragonflies buzzing by and the wind in the trees. Then, we heard - and felt - a deep bull horn. Big Sis wanted to know what it was (so did I). With each start and stop, it seemed to get louder and louder. The whole forest vibrated. I started to freak myself out ... what if a big male elk attacked?
Turns out, it was a giant bull frog. I should have known, considering these gorgeous lily pads we were staring at. I know, I'm crazy.
Other fun things happened that day too! It was one of those days that I wish I could have canned. :) I have so many pics from the day, here are a few:

With a field journal in hand, Big Sis walks with a purpose at a state park near our house. Her purpose: counting how many sticks, types of flowers and types of insects she finds. I think her results were 8 sticks, 6 types of flowers and 4 types of insects.
These girls are so much fun! Lil Sis signed "Dog" for the first time during the picnic. She wasn't prompted or anything - she just saw one, then started patting away! She loves dogs - and balloons, and binkis, and eating, and her family.

Big Sis loves having lessons! Ocean life is the theme for the time being. This activity: playdough octopus. She's easy to please when it comes to learning new things.
